On April 4th, the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department and the Provincial Department of Culture held an event in Haikou city to officially submit the list of intangible cultural heritage items urgently recommended for UNESCO recognition. The event was a major milestone in the protection and promotion of the Li ethnic group's traditional textile and embroidery skills. Attendees included Provincial Party Committee Propaganda Minister Tan Li, as well as provincial leaders Fu Guihua and Lin Quan.
The Li ethnic traditional textile dyeing and embroidery techniques represent the original textile technology of the Li people, encompassing spinning, dyeing, weaving, and embroidery. These skills, especially in dyeing, single-sided weaving, and double-sided embroidery, have been passed down from the pre-Qin era to today, remaining deeply embedded in the social and cultural life of the Li community.
The successful submission of "Traditional Li-dyed Embroidery Techniques" marks not only the international recognition of China's efforts in protecting intangible cultural heritage but also a proud moment for the Li people. In his speech, Tan Li emphasized the importance of increasing public awareness about non-material cultural heritage protection. He called for more efforts in promoting related policies and leveraging the educational and display functions of cultural institutions.
He also proposed building more museums, transfer centers, heritage bases, and protection parks to better preserve and promote these traditions. Furthermore, he encouraged using the rich resources of intangible cultural heritage to explore new ways of integrating cultural preservation with tourism development, ensuring that cultural heritage contributes effectively to the country's economic and social progress.
During the meeting, ten units, including the Provincial Non-Material Cultural Heritage Protection Center, were honored as advanced units for their outstanding contributions to the successful application of the "Li Nationality Traditional Spinning, Weaving, and Embroidery Techniques." Additionally, 25 individuals, such as Deng Jinghua, were recognized as advanced figures for their remarkable efforts in safeguarding this precious cultural legacy.
This event highlights the growing commitment to preserving China's diverse cultural heritage and serves as a powerful reminder of the value of tradition in modern society.
