India's cotton production is expected to hit a record high in 2011

According to Indian media reports, as cotton prices continue to rise and normal rains are forecast for the rainy season in 2011, Indian farmers will expand their cotton acreage and the country’s cotton production is expected to hit a record high. At present, India is the second largest cotton producer in the world.

The rainfall from June to September each year is crucial to the output of Indian agriculture. It is predicted that the precipitation in the rainy season in 2011 will be at normal levels. In addition, with the shortage of cotton in the international market, the price of cotton in the country has already broken its historical record in February.

According to the National Cotton Advisory Committee of India, at the end of September 2011, the Indian cotton production will reach a record high of 31.2 million bales (5.304 million tons).
