Ah, late summer/early fall. It's still feeling like summer outside, but the mornings and evenings are definitely getting cooler (at least where I live). This picture really captures that transitional vibe for me. We're still enjoying fresh summer produce from the garden, but the colors around us are becoming richer, and I find myself thinking about switching to warmer clothing.

The deep emerald greens paired with rosy pinks create a balanced look, while the palette is grounded by a rich charcoal shade (which is a softer alternative to black—easy to wear and incredibly versatile). I’ve mixed different fabric types (corduroy, double gauze, chambray, quilting cotton) along with varying tones. The girly prints would work beautifully for something like the Playtime Tunic or the Hide-and-Seek Dress with a contrast yoke. (Last spring, I made one using eggplant chambray, and my daughter loves wearing it.)
For the boys, I can picture a relaxed corduroy version of the Art Museum Trousers paired with a Tiger Sketchbook Shirt. Anyone else excited about some early fall sewing projects?

As temperatures drop, I find myself gravitating towards cozy fabrics and deeper hues. The transition from summer to fall is always such a magical time. There’s something about the crisp air that makes you want to layer up with soft textures and warm colors. It’s not just about the clothes; it’s the feeling of wrapping yourself in comfort as the seasons change.
I’ve been experimenting with different patterns and fabrics lately, trying to capture that perfect balance between casual and stylish. One thing I’ve learned is that adding pops of color—like those rosy pinks—can really brighten up an outfit during the darker days ahead. And don’t forget about accessories! A well-placed scarf or hat can make all the difference.
What are your favorite fabrics for this time of year? Do you prefer bold prints or more muted tones when transitioning into autumn? Let me know in the comments below—I’d love to hear your thoughts!
