Ah, late summer/early fall. It’s that magical time when the weather outside still feels summery, but there’s a noticeable chill creeping into the mornings and evenings—especially where I live. This photo really captures the essence of this transitional season for me. Our garden is still full of fresh summer veggies, but the colors around us are deepening, and I can’t help but start thinking about swapping out my lighter wardrobe for something a bit cozier.

The rich emerald greens and soft rosy pinks in this palette are beautifully balanced by lighter, more delicate prints. The deep charcoal acts as an anchor—it’s a great alternative to black, softer on the eyes and incredibly versatile. I’ve mixed different fabric types, from corduroy to double gauze and quilting cotton, along with various shades. Those girly prints would look fantastic in a Playtime Tunic or a Hide-and-Seek Dress with a contrast yoke. (Last spring, I made one in eggplant chambray, and my daughter wears it all the time!)
For the boys, I imagine a relaxed corduroy version of the Art Museum Trousers paired with a Tiger Sketchbook Shirt. Doesn’t that sound perfect for the upcoming season? Who else is already itching to get started on some early fall sewing projects?
