Clothing increased banned azo detection from August 2012

After a one-year transitional period, the new version of the National Basic Safety Technical Code for Textile Products will be enforced on August 1 this year. This is the author's recent learning from the children's clothing fabric accessories quality control technology exchange meeting. The new standard has increased The use of azo “4-aminoazobenzene” was banned, and the number of banned azos in textiles was increased from 23 to 24.

It is reported that this type of banned azo was detected in the testing of children's wear in the first half of this year.

In the first half of the year, Zhang Yulian, a senior engineer of the National Center for Quality Supervision and Inspection of Textiles and Clothing Products (Guangzhou), said that the main problems found in the examination of children's clothing include: the presence of carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes; banned azo dyes; excessive levels of formaldehyde; pH Alkaline value; poor color fastness, discoloration, or staining; fiber content is unworthy of name; button or belt sewing strength is insufficient, can extract excessive heavy metals.

When clothing containing banned azo dyes is in contact with humans for a long period of time, the dyes may be absorbed by the skin and diffuse in the human body. These dyes may undergo reduction reaction to decompose the carcinogenic aromatic amines under the biochemical reaction conditions in the normal metabolism of the human body. And through the activation of changes in the body's DNA structure, causing disease or induce cancer.

Zhang Yulian introduced that more than 300 kinds of azo dyes are banned internationally. They may release 24 kinds of carcinogenic aromatic amines. The new national standard GB18401-2010 "National Basic Technical Specifications for Textile Products" adds to this azo detection.

It is worth noting that the new standard also stipulates the limit value of banned azo, which is not more than 20mg/kg, and the old standard does not require it.

Zhang Yulian said that in the first half of this year, the proportion of banned azo disqualification was slightly higher than that of last year.

Pocket cloth lining cloth easy "accident"

Zhang Yulian said that the prohibition of azo exceedance is often found on pocket cloths and lining cloths. Because these fabrics are cheap, manufacturers often do not pay attention to the purchase of dyes.

She said that children's clothing manufacturers should also conduct inspections on purchased fabric accessories, so as to better avoid the banned azo dye project from being disqualified.

Wang Xueyan from Huntsman Textiles & Chemicals (China) Co., Ltd. told the author that the price of banned azo dyes is ten times lower than that of non-containing dyes, and huge profits drive companies to take risks.
