Tajikistan, new cotton slow cotton market momentum
In September, Tajikistan's new cotton market started slowly, with a noticeable decline in trading volume. However, this did not dampen the country's strong export performance. The market for new cotton saw a sharp drop of 65.8% compared to the same period last year, with only 5,000 tons traded. Over the first two months of this year, the total volume of new cotton in the market reached just 5,600 tons, reflecting a significant 64.4% decrease from the previous year.
Despite this, the export figures told a different story. In September alone, Tajikistan's cotton exports jumped by 96.7%, reaching 5,900 tons. By the end of the first nine months of the year, the total export volume had surged to 13,800 tons—an impressive 200% increase compared to the same period last year. This highlights the resilience and growing demand for Tajik cotton in international markets.
Although recent reports suggest that domestic cotton production may decline this year due to weather conditions and resource constraints, industry experts believe that supply will remain stable. With improved logistics and increased foreign demand, the country is expected to maintain and even boost its export volumes in the coming months. This positive trend reflects the government’s efforts to modernize the sector and attract more investment.
